Montrel participated in the development of the first LNG truck loading terminal in Puerto Rico, a pioneering project in the Caribbean led by EcoEléctrica—a consortium formed by Naturgy, Engie, Mitsui, and GE. The plant integrates power generation with natural gas, a desalination facility, and a regasification terminal, supplying the island with a cleaner, more efficient energy model.
OUR WORK
Montrel’s scope included basic and detailed engineering, instrumentation, supply of two loading skids, and the complete implementation of the process control system, safety systems, and integration with an automatic weighbridge. Montrel also developed the management software and documentation for loading operations.
The terminal features 160,000 m³ of cryogenic storage and accommodates LNG carriers of up to 140,000 m³. Since 2015, the LNG truck loading terminal has enabled the distribution of natural gas across Puerto Rico, supporting the island’s energy policy to reduce dependence on oil.
