Modernization of the additive injection system for loading bays at Moeve’s asphalt plant in Matosinhos (Portugal)

Moeve, a global company specializing in sustainable energy and mobility, needed to upgrade and expand the additive injection system used at the loading bays of its asphalt plant in Matosinhos, Portugal.

The objective was to incorporate a new product into the facility while maintaining existing operational standards, enhancing the system’s technological capabilities and efficiency through the integration of state-of-the-art equipment.

The project included the installation of a new storage system associated with tank TK-07, a new injector assembly, the integration of new field instrumentation, and the adaptation of the plant’s control and monitoring systems.

OUR WORK

To meet this challenge, Moeve entrusted Montrel as its specialized partner in industrial instrumentation, control, and automation.

Our team carried out the complete execution of all works required for the system modernization, including the supply and installation of equipment, cable routing and wiring, configuration and programming of control systems, as well as testing and final commissioning.

The most significant activities included:

  • Installation of new process instrumentation for monitoring and control.
  • Integration of level sensors and associated measurement systems for tank TK-07.
  • Implementation of industrial communications using the Modbus protocol.
  • Configuration and commissioning of the Honeywell Fusion4 MultiPak additive injection system.
  • Adaptation of the existing PLC and SCADA programming to integrate the new functionalities.
  • Verification, functional testing, and commissioning in a fully operational plant.

All work was carried out in an industrial environment with stringent safety requirements, demanding close operational coordination and strict compliance with documentation and quality standards.

The scope of the project aligns perfectly with Montrel’s expertise in industrial facilities requiring close coordination with operations, safety, quality assurance, work planning, and compliance with customer specifications.

The modernization of the system has enabled Moeve to expand the plant’s operational capacity to handle new products while simultaneously improving dosing accuracy, process control, and operational traceability.

The integration of the Honeywell Fusion4 MultiPak system with the existing PLC and SCADA platforms provides more efficient and reliable management of additive injection processes, reducing the risk of operational incidents and optimizing overall plant performance.
