LNG Facility in Puerto Rico
Gas Natural Fenosa is present in Puerto Rico, where it owns a storage and regasification facility for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The plant also includes an unloading facility that supports LNG tankers of up to 140,000 cubic meters. The product is stored in a cryogenic tank with a capacity of 160,000 cubic meters. This regasification plant is the only one of its type in Puerto Rico, making it a strategic choice to supply natural gas to the island. It also provides a significant competitive advantage.
Commitment to Energy Supply
GNPR manages gas facilities with exclusive access rights to natural gas on the island. Its commitment to Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority is to supply 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas over the next two years. This strengthens GNPR’s activities in Puerto Rico and supports its mission to provide electricity efficiently, safely, economically, and in harmony with the environment.
New LNG Truck Loading Facility
To support nationwide supply, Gas Natural Fenosa is constructing a new LNG Truck Loading Facility, recently awarded to Montrel. The facility will have an LNG operation capacity of 960 cubic meters per day, serving 24 trucks daily with two loading bays. Initially, it will operate for 12 hours per day.
Montrel’s Role
This unique project in Puerto Rico has been awarded to the Spanish company Montrel. With over 50 years of experience in high-level engineering, Montrel is a leader in LNG loading facilities for tank trucks. The company has already installed seven facilities in Spain, as well as facilities in Chile and Peru.
Montrel will handle the design, manufacture, and “turnkey” installation of the new facility. The work includes basic and detailed engineering, instrumentation, mechanical work, piping skids, the general loading automation system with process control, document management, and integration with existing systems.
Ensuring Islandwide Supply
Once the truck loading facility becomes operational in 2015, Puerto Rico will ensure reliable LNG supply to all areas of the island.
