Manufacture of ATEX enclosures for the automation of Exolum’s fuel loading terminals in Spain

Exolum is one of the most relevant companies in the energy logistics sector, responsible for the management, storage, and distribution of petroleum products in Spain, with a strong international presence. Its operations require the highest levels of safety, reliability, and efficiency, particularly in critical facilities such as fuel loading terminals.

Prior to the project, Exolum faced several operational challenges related to increasing the level of automation in its fuel loading and blending processes, ensuring maximum safety in classified hazardous areas with explosion risk, and upgrading control systems, including the integration of new Accuload III systems for load control and biodiesel blending across 70 loading islands.

This has been the largest-volume ATEX manufacturing project carried out by Montrel for a single client.

OUR WORK

Fuel loading terminals operate in ATEX environments where the presence of flammable gases requires certified equipment that prevents any potential source of ignition and ensures the reliable operation of all signaling, power supply, and communication components under extreme conditions.

Montrel designed and manufactured 350 ATEX enclosures fully adapted to Exolum’s operational requirements. The panels were engineered to enable full integration of the new Accuload III systems for load control and biodiesel blending across 70 Exolum loading terminals in Spain.

Our company delivered differentiated value through precision engineering focused on strict regulatory compliance, along with optimized internal design to facilitate installation and maintenance.

ADDED VALUE

The new ATEX enclosures have enhanced the protection of Exolum’s facilities by reducing ignition risks, ensuring safe and stable operation of all electrical and control systems, and complying with current ATEX regulations.

Additionally, integration with the Accuload III system has improved fuel loading and blending control, increased the level of automation across the loading islands, and optimized operational times.

According to Israel Paredes, Manufacturing Director at Montrel, “the trust placed in Montrel by Exolum, awarding us exclusively the entire ATEX manufacturing scope of the project, demonstrates the differentiated value our company brings to the energy sector, consolidating our position as a solid, reliable, and excellence-driven technology partner.”
