Borja Viu at “New Generation Leaders”
Our CEO, Borja Viu, was chosen to speak at the “New Generation Leaders” meetings organised by Andalucía Económica. These events highlight Andalusian managers with remarkable careers, who share both their professional journey and the keys to managing successful business models.
Career Overview and Joining Montrel
Borja began with an overview of his professional career and then explained how he joined Montrel. He noted:
“When I arrived at Montrel, I found a company with great technical and economic solvency, no debts, and very strong assets. The most important thing I had was intangible assets: the best and most loyal customers in the sector, such as REE, Endesa, Cepsa, Repsol, Exolum, Enagás and BP. And that is invaluable.”
The Six Pillars of Leadership
Borja defined six pillars he has focused on since joining the company:
-
International expansion
-
Diversification
-
Innovation
-
Digitalisation
-
Professionalisation
-
Sustainable growth
International Expansion
Regarding international expansion, he explained:
“60% of what we are budgeting is already outside Spain. We aim to gradually increase our international turnover. Currently, we have major projects in Latin America, North Africa, and Europe.”
Diversification and New Sectors
He highlighted that Montrel has almost tripled its client portfolio in just three years. Furthermore, the company has entered new sectors, including hydrogen, electric mobility, renewables, the agri-food industry, and soon, mining.
Workforce Transformation
Borja also noted the progressive incorporation of women into the workforce, representing 60% of new hires.
Geographic Opportunities
He emphasised the unique challenges of each continent:
“In Morocco and South America, we are implementing projects similar to those we completed in Spain 20–30 years ago. We have much work ahead, but we are optimistic thanks to a strong team committed to effort, attitude, and humility.”
Acknowledgements
Finally, Borja thanked Montrel’s talented human capital and the unconditional support of the partners.
