PERU LNG is one of the main players in natural gas supply in South America.
Since 2010, it has operated the region’s first liquefied natural gas processing plant. The facility, located in Pampa Melchorita, covers 521 hectares and stands as a benchmark for safety, quality, and environmental standards.
The site includes a cryogenic truck loading station manufactured by Montrel, built under the highest technological standards. Montrel supplied the loading skids, weighing scales, control valves, and measuring instruments. It also developed the software for the integrated management and loading control system.
The rapid growth in natural gas demand across Latin America led PERU LNG to expand the Melchorita plant’s supply capacity. Initially, it could serve only 18 tanker trucks per day.
To address this, PERU LNG once again trusted Montrel’s expertise.
Montrel was awarded the EPC contract for a second loading station identical to the first. This expansion doubled the plant’s capacity to 36 trucks per day and introduced improvements that simplified operations.
OUR WORK
This turnkey project for PERU LNG included the development of detailed engineering, with Montrel playing an active role in instrumentation and process disciplines, as well as collaborating on electrical and mechanical aspects. The project also involved equipment procurement, the design and development of the loading skid, and the incorporation of a new truck scale that allows precise monitoring of tanker weight during the process.
The update of the process control system, originally developed by Montrel, enabled the integration of all new project signals and allowed both loading bays to be managed jointly. Additionally, this update automated the data capture processes from the plant system (freeing operators from those tasks) and streamlined the management of tanker and driver documentation, enhancing process safety and enabling real-time operations monitoring and control.
Montrel was also responsible for the commissioning and start-up of the project. Throughout the process, Montrel applied the highest technical standards, meeting strict international requirements.
