BP is one of the leading global energy operators. In the Iberian Peninsula, it has operated a single refinery in Castellón since 1967. However, BP does not own its own truck loading or unloading facilities for fuel distribution.
To deliver products to end customers, such as service stations or factories, BP partners with other operators — including Exolum, Moeve, Galp, Tepsa, and Terminales Canarios — for product storage and tanker truck loading.
This model involves hundreds of daily trips by BP’s contracted tanker fleet across Spain and Portugal. BP manages these operations through its SAP ERP system.
Each partner, however, uses a different logistics or loading management system. This diversity makes it inefficient for BP to create custom communications with each operator from its ERP.
The solution came from Montrel and its STAFPlus system. This platform acts as a gateway and integration hub that adapts protocols and interfaces between BP and all the operators with which it collaborates for tanker truck loading across the Iberian Peninsula.
OUR WORK
STAFPlus is an EPC design developed by Montrel for BP Iberia (Spain and Portugal). It is a system that integrates BP’s hydrocarbon distribution logistics with the tanker truck loading facilities of the various operators the multinational energy company works with.
All scheduling of tanker truck trips and information regarding BP’s completed fuel loads is managed through STAFPlus, which channels this information to each of BP’s partner operators. Likewise, the system receives real-time notifications from each TAS (Truck Automation System) or loading facility for every milestone during the truck loading process and reports this information back to BP Iberia’s ERP system.
In other words, STAFPlus functions as an integration gateway, adapting interfaces and communication protocols between systems. BP generates logistics information exclusively from its ERP, and STAFPlus processes and transmits this information in the specific format required by each operator. In turn, these operators respond with their own information using different protocols, which the Montrel-designed system integrates seamlessly into BP’s system.
